WAYS TO MODIFY & ADAPT YOUR MASK
Is it hard for you to tie a bow behind your head? Or do you prefer an ear loop mask? With some accessories or simply a pair of well-placed knots, you can make your mask easier to adjust or convert your mask ties to ear loops.
Cord Locks: Cord locks are those little plastic doohickies with a spring inside that hold cords tight and can be adjusted quickly and easily by pushing the button. You can add cord locks to the top and bottom ties to make your behind-the-head mask easier to adjust, or you can join the sides together to create instant ear loops. Just push down the button on the cord lock to compress the spring and guide the ties through the hole. You may need to use needle-nose pliers to push the end knots through. You can chop off the knotted ends to make it a bit easier, just be sure to re-tie the knots so the ends don’t fray!
Tied Up in Knots: If you don’t want to bother with cord locks, you can join together the side ties with a sliding knot to create your own adjustable ear loops. The easiest type of knot is called a Poacher’s Knot.
Take a look at this super simple animation and follow along. You’ll want to keep the bottom cord straight and do the looping and tying with the top cord. Pull the knot snug, but not too tight so you can adjust the size of your ear loops. The resulting knot will slide back and forth along the bottom cord, and the bottom cord will be left at full-length to be used to hang the mask around your neck when not in use.
